Carlisle was our stop today, just 8 miles from the infamous Gretna! We met the pleasant Hamish on our arrival, 2 hours before the intended hog roast serve time. The planned menu was the Silver menu. Within 30 minutes we were fully set up with the hog roasting away. The occasion was an appreciation of staff for a company event. Hamish told us the company were producing up to 40,000 doors a week! Quite amazing.
3:45pm The hog roast was checked for temperature and showed 85 degrees. The green light was given and the hog promptly lifted and the prepared salads were put on show. The cracking was stripped from the hog and service began. The meat doesn’t require carving at this temperature, it simply just pulls from the bones. Absolutely delicious. The service was very casual & relaxed with guests coming back for thirds and fourths! Once everyone was more than catered for, the clear down started.
We were invited for a drink with the hosts and had a great laugh with them for 20 minutes. In particular Gary, who was the firm’s janitor (4-1) and Neil who was head of the electricians. If only we could have stayed longer. It was a very enjoyable 20 minutes.
After saying our goodbyes we were back on the road heading back to base.
We would like to wish Vannesa well in her new job, she was leaving the company after being a fantastic servant for quite a number of years and also pass our thanks to Hamish for booking us for the event. It is always much appreciated, thank you.
